  Introduction to Fly Tying

We'll tell you upfront that you probably won't save money tying your own flies - that is a lofty goal.  What you will gain from tying is the satisfaction of tricking a fish with your own creation while developing a greater understanding of this art of deception and of the insects we imitate.

Look through our collection of tying materials: feathers, fur, fuzz and flash - we'll show examples of the use of the more common and a few of the exotic.  We'll explain various hook styles and sizes and options for weighting the flies.  You will learn how to read a recipe and how to do the most common tying maneuvers.

You'll tie a few flies to practice attaching materials, thread control and proportions.   When you are done you'll have several of your own flies plus the information and skills necessary to start your tying career.  Materials will be provided.

To set up an appointment call 406-682-3238.  If we are off fishing just leave a message and we'll catch up with you - or better yet, send an email to cezanne@madisonrivercasting.com and set up your date with the vise.  Click here for rates and details.
