Introduction To Fly Fishing

Learn what gear to use - rods, reels, lines, leaders, tippet, flies, and all the other cool gadgets fly fishers stuff into their vests, their pockets and hang around their necks.

Tie the basic knots to hook it all together - improved clinch, surgeons' knot and loop.

Look through our fly boxes and learn about caddis, mayflies, stoneflies, terrestrials and attractors.  We'll give you the basics on "matching the hatch" and how to fish dries, wets, nymphs and streamers.

Learn about reading water.  We'll discuss wading strategies and safety, where to look for fish and how to recognize hatches.

We'll hold this class streamside.  You'll get a chance to make some casts and maybe you'll even catch a fish.  We suggest hat, sunscreen, jacket and polarized sunglasses (reading glasses too, if necessary).  While you don't have to get wet, if you intend to do some wading, waders and wading boots are a good idea.  Wet wading works in the summer, but shoes with felt really help the traction.  As we will be fishing at the end of the class, you will need a Montana fishing license.

To set up an appointment call 406-682-3238 .  If we are off fishing just leave a message and we'll catch up with you - or better yet, send an email to cezanne@madisonrivercasting.com and get started with Fly Fishing.  Click here for rates and details.
